Katie Taylor finally qualifies for London 2012

Katie Taylor has qualified for the London 2012 Olympics.

Taylor was due to meet Mihaela Lacatus in the quarter-finals of the 7th AIBA World Women’s Championships and Olympic qualifiers in Qinhuangdao, China this morning (Irish time).

But the Bray woman was granted a walkover after the Romanian withdrew injured.

It is understood that Lacatus, a gold medal winner at the 2005 AIBA World Women’s Championships, suffered a neck injury.

In further good news for Taylor, Mavzuna Chorieva of Tajikistan beat Estelle Mossely of France this morning, a result that qualified Taylor for London 2012 as there are three Olympic places available for European boxers in Taylor’s lightweight category.

The Chorieva versus Mossely result ensured that only three Europeans will be in Friday’s semi-finals.

Taylor, Russia’s Sofya Ochigava and England’s Natasha Jonas, who both won this morning, are also through to the last-four and all three will compete at the London 2012 Olympics.

Taylor, who is aiming for her fourth AIBA World title in-a-row in China, will meet Chorieva, who has also qualified for London 2012, in Friday’s lightweight semi-final.

Ochigava and Jonas clash in the corresponding semi-final.

All four semi-finalists are guaranteed at least bronze.

Following today’s results, Taylor, her Bray BC team-mate Adam Nolan, Paddy Barnes, Michael Conlan, John Joe Nevin and Darren O’Neill will represent Ireland in the boxing event at the XXX Olympiad.

Women’s boxing will make its historic debut at the 2012 Games in three weight categories – flyweight, lightweight and middleweight.

"Having an erection does not mean you are being sexual. Being sexual comes from inside your sense of yourself," Shaw says. "You can be sexual, you can feel sexual, you can behave sexually without an erection. A penis is not the only part of a man's body that can be used sexually." Three mechanisms trigger these vascular changes: psychogenic, reflexogenic and centrally originated (nocturnal erections). Psychogenic erections occur through stimulatory pathways (e.g., sound, smell, sight and touch) that travel from the spinal erection centres (T11L2 and S2S4) and induce a dopaminergic initiation of erection from the medial pre-optic area.17 Reflexogenic erections, induced by direct genital stimulation, send ascending messages to the central erection centres and direct messages to the autonomic nuclei, which explains residual erectile activity in patients with upper spinal cord injuries. Nocturnal erections, initiated in the pontine reticular formation and amygdalae, are seen during REM sleep and are believed to be caused by a relative decrease in sympathetic inhibition with augmentation of the pro-erectile centres. "The key to curing more prostate cancer is to give higher does of radiation," observed Horwitz. "And over the last few years, more and more men have been getting higher dose radiation, because the radiation oncology community knows that dose matters and that low dose radiation is just not effective compared to high dose. And this study shows that we have the ability to give these high doses in different ways, and in all these ways, men do very well."
