With the senior box-offs taking much of the news headlines, there was a lower key serving of quality boxing provided by the National Youth Finals at the National Stadium following the senior business.
The O’Reilly brothers from Portlaoise added to their vast collection of titles when Michael won the title at 69k beating Christy Joyce (St Michaels Athy) on a score-line of 15-7. Not long after Michael secured his belt his brother Bernie collected made it a double when he made short work of Patrick McDonagh (Dealgan) with the the ref stopped the fight in the first round .
George bates made it a good day for the St Marys club when he beat Stephan Mulholland (St Malachys ) on a score line of 12.8 . Joe Fitzpatrick (Immaculta) continued to show excellent form when he captured the 52kg crown defeating Dean Walsh (St Ibars /Josephs) on a score-line of 8-6.

Keane McMahon (Dublin Docklands) and Kieran Forde (Monivea) also impressed at 60Kg and 64k respectively and just to show that the heavy weights are not always lumbering thrashers, Jack Morrissey (Sacre Coeur) and Daniel O’Brien (St Lukes) supplied a tremendous bout with the Wexford boxer coming out on top 20-16.
In the girls there were w/o wins for Michaela Walsh (Holy Family GG), Oliwia Samsanow (Cavan) and Katie Rowland (Geesala). There were inside the distance wins for Claire Grace (Callan ) and Lisa Forde (St Marys Daingean ) at 69k and 75k respectively .
